Underdeveloped Debut
Format: Kindle
Chandler’s debut novel started out as an engaging read, though the storyline leaned heavily on a trope that is used too frequently. The protagonists, Juliette and Luca, had great chemistry as rivals. However, as the plot developed and the supernatural twist was revealed (which felt akin to the film In Time, but only with respect to the tattoos), both lost their appeal. Luca seemed to lack depth, despite the fact that she was supposed to be the more emotional and sensitive one. Juliette was insufferable at times and I did not believe the growth she underwent in order to find her way back to Luca. The supporting characters were forgettable and their interactions with Juliette and Luca did nothing to save the characterization flaws. The conflict between Juliette and Luca seemed forced towards the middle and end too, as Luca put in more effort into their relationship than Juliette did. By the end of the novel, unfortunately, my eyes reverted to skimming the pages, so I could finish it faster.
Please note that while I found fault with most elements of the novel, it overall was not an unpleasant read— just very dull. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria, as I was invited to read this novel after receiving an e-mail from Atria Books.

Finding Yourself in the Middle of the Mess
Format: Paperback
Bed and Breakup by Susie Dumond is one of those reads that feels fun on the surface but hits deeper when you least expect it. The setup pulls you in quickly, but what keeps you reading is how real the emotional journey feels. The main character is figuring things out in a way that feels honest and a little messy, which makes it easy to stay invested. There is humor, but it does not take away from the growth and self-awareness that builds over time. The relationships feel grounded, not rushed, and you can see the shift in how she shows up for herself.

Cute
Format: Paperback
This was a cute Sapphic romcom set in eureka springs Arkansas. Molly and Robin are so cute together and I love all three characters. The diversity is done very well and I love the tidbits about the town lore and how an old inn could bring these two lovebirds back together after so many years apart.

Cute way to pass the time
Format: Paperback
Thank you to Dial Press Trade Paperback and NetGalley for the ARC of this novel. I thought this was really cute and a fun way to pass the time. I am a fan of Food Network cooking shows so it was a way to see behind the scenes a bit for the reality behind reality TV. The inn itself sounded lovely and seeing Molly and Robin grow apart and then back together was what I wanted from the book. The ending did feel abrupt but for the most part, enjoyable. 3.5 stars.
